The Identify tool does not return the field alias

Description

In some cases, when using the Identify tool to identify feature layers that have aliases for the field names in their tables, the Identify Results dialog box does not return the alias.

Cause

The following conditions may cause ArcMap's Identify tool not to return field aliases:

· When the identified feature is part of a geodatabase feature class, and the field value of the identified feature is null, the Identify tool ignores the field alias and returns the actual field name.

· If the field has a domain, the field alias is not returned.

Solution or Workaround

• The issue concerning nulls has been addressed in ArcGIS Version 8.1.2.
• The issue concerning fields with domains has no work around.
