Cause

This is a known limitation. In ArcMap, if a feature layer is exported from ArcGIS Online, it is unable to render graduated symbology. Refer to ArcMap: 00085 - Layer uses an unsupported renderer for more information.

Solution or Workaround

As an alternative, import the hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Pro using the instructions provided below.

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, sign in to ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Add a portal connection for steps to do this.
  2. Add the hosted feature layer to the map.
    1. In the Catalog pane, click the Portal tab, and click My Content.
    2. Search for or select the hosted feature layer.
    3. Right-click the layer, and click Add To Current Map. The graduated symbology for the points in the hosted feature layer displays correctly.
