The Feature Dataset option is disabled in ArcGIS Pro 2.6

Description

In ArcGIS Pro 2.6, the Feature Dataset option in the Catalog pane is disabled when attempting to create a new feature dataset.

Cause

This is known behaviour after the ArcGIS Pro 2.6 update, which renders users with a Basic license unable to select the Feature Dataset option. This issue is logged by Esri as a defect. For more information, refer to BUG-000133417 and BUG-000132678.

Solution or Workaround

Use one of the methods below to resolve the issue.

Use the Create Feature Dataset tool

  1. In ArcGIS Pro 2.6, click the Analysis tab > Tools.
  2. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for and select Create Feature Dataset (Data Management Tools).
  3. Populate the required fields in Parameters. Click Run

Upgrade to a Standard or Advanced license for ArcGIS Pro on the machine

Upgrade to a Standard or Advanced license to enable the Feature Dataset option for selection in ArcGIS Pro. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: How to get ArcGIS Pro licenses for more information.
