The Elevation Profile widget in ArcGIS Experience Builder does not highlight the next connected features for selection

Description

When selecting a line segment using the Elevation Profile widget in ArcGIS Experience Builder, the next connected line segment is not highlighted for selection, even though the widget setting is enabled and configured correctly.

The image below shows the Elevation Profile widget only highlighted the selected line segment in ArcGIS Experience Builder.

Cause

This issue occurs because the layer used in the web map is a map image layer that references a map service. Map services render map content as images and do not make individual feature geometry, attributes, or symbology available for querying or editing.

Solution or Workaround

Ensure that a feature service is used. Feature services provide individual feature geometries, attributes, and symbology for displaying, querying, and editing vector data in web maps. It specifically allows access to individual geographic features within a dataset. For instructions, refer to ArcGIS Pro: Share a web feature layer using the default configuration.
