PROBLEM

The difference between EPS files and other PostScript files

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Solution or Workaround

How do EPS files differ from other PostScript files?

Answer:

EPS files are designed for transferring images between applications, and therefore are written in a slightly different format than the typical PostScript files sent to an output device. Because EPS files are designed to be included within a document, they do not have any of the page configuration information necessary to print the image. Some EPS files can be plotted if a SHOWPAGE command is appended to the file.

Notes:

PostScript is a trademark of Adobe Systems, Inc.
