The Delete option is unavailable for a hosted feature layer field in ArcGIS Online

Description

The Delete option for a field is sometimes unavailable for a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online even though the hosted feature layer is editable and the user is the owner or is the administrator of the ArcGIS Online organization.

Cause

This is a known limitation due to one of the following reasons.

• The field is used for the display field. For example, when a field is selected in Display field in ArcGIS Pro, and the layer is published to ArcGIS Online, the Delete option is not available.
• The field is used for the time slider.
• The field is used for filtering.

Solution or Workaround

To prevent the issue from recurring, follow the steps below to ensure the layer of the affected field does not have a preset setting for Display, Time, or Page Query.

1. In ArcGIS Pro, on the Contents pane, right-click the layer > Properties.
2. In the Layer Properties window, ensure the settings are configured as follows:
   1. Navigate to Display > Display field. Ensure the field is not selected and click OK.

2. Navigate to Time > Layer Time. Ensure No Time is selected and click OK.

3. Navigate to Page Query. Under Map Series Page Filter, ensure no option is selected and click OK.

3. Publish the layer to ArcGIS Online.
