PROBLEM

The attribute value does not match the legend in ArcGIS Field Maps

Last Published: March 9, 2023

Description

When adding new features on a map in ArcGIS Field Maps, the displayed attribute values do not match the values displayed in the legend that were configured based on the same field.

In the example below, a new feature is created for 'snowflake' (refer to legend). When filling in attributes for the new feature, the field does not display 'snowflake' in the attribute selection list.

The attribute value is not the same as the legend

Cause

This is expected behavior. The field values follow the default value set for the field. For example, the issue may occur if the project is transferred to a new member and they are unaware of the existing default value.

Solution or Workaround

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, open the feature layer. In this example, it is 'poi'.
  2. In the Contents pane, right-click the feature layer.
  3. Select Data Design > Fields.
Open Fields
  1. In the Fields: <layer name> table, remove the value in the Domain and Default columns. To do this, select the field with the domain or default value, and click the empty value from the drop-down list.
Remove default values
  1. On the top ribbon, on the Changes tab, click Save.
  2. Overwrite the feature layer in ArcGIS Online using ArcGIS Pro. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Overwrite a web feature layer for instructions.

The image below shows the attribute value displayed matches the map legend.
