The administrator user account created by the upgradeportal command line utility remains in the portal's index

Description

When upgrading Portal for ArcGIS from version 10.8 to 10.8.1 for Windows and Linux using the upgradeportal command line utility, an administrator user account named admin with six randomized digits (for example, admin152566) is created. After the upgrade operation is completed, the created administrator user account remains in the portal's index, and cannot be disabled or deleted by other administrators.

Cause

The account is created when using the upgradeportal command line utility to successfully complete the upgrade and post-upgrade operations of Portal for ArcGIS. After the operations are completed, the account is removed from the internal database but remains in the index. This results in the account being visible in the portal.

Solution or Workaround

To remove the created administrator user account, reindex the portal's users index by running the Reindex tool in the Portal Administrator Directory.

1. Log in to the Portal Administrator Directory with a user with administrator privileges.

The URL for the Portal Administrator Directory is https://<machine>.<domain>:7443/arcgis/portaladmin/

2. Navigate to System > Indexer > Status. Confirm that the Count in store and the Count in index fields are not synchronized for the users type.

3. Navigate to System > Indexer. Click Reindex.
4. Select User from the Mode drop-down list, and click Reindex.

5. Once the operation is completed, the created administrator user account is removed from the portal's index
