Text from Google Docs is not displayed in ArcGIS Story Maps after edits are saved

Description

A story map with text copied from Google Docs does not display when viewed in Preview, after refreshing the page, or after publishing the story map, even though the text is saved in draft.

Cause

Google Docs outputs an invalid HTML, which affects the copying and pasting of text in story maps.

Solution or Workaround

The following workarounds are applicable to display text in a story map.

  • Download the Google Docs document as a TXT file or DOCX file, and copy the text from the TXT or DOCX file into the story map. Then adjust the formatting of the text as desired in the story map.
  • Copy the text from the Google Docs document and paste it in the story map using the Ctrl + Shift + V keyboard shortcut for Windows, or the Command + Option + Shift + V keyboard shortcut for Mac.
