PROBLEM

Standby data store is unable to automatically replicate the primary data store

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When working with ArcGIS Data Store, the standby machine does not automatically replicate the primary Data Store. Additionally, a notification may be returned indicating "Incomplete startup packet".

Cause

Communication between the primary and standby data store cannot be established. For example, the data stores are attempting to establish a connection with each other through port 9876, but the port is not available.

The notification is often returned if a client machine makes a connection to the database server, but sends no traffic. The client machine intermittently checks if a connection can be established with the database server using the defined ports.

Solution or Workaround

Remove the standby data store from the server site where the data store is hosted, and re-register the standby data store.

  1. Remove the standby data store from the server site using the removemachine utility. For more information, refer to ArcGIS Help: removemachine.
  2. Stop the standby data store service.
    Note:
To start or stop a data store service, refer to ArcGIS Help: ArcGIS Data Store REST commands.
  3. Rename the standby data store's arcgisdatastore folder. The folder is commonly located at:
    C:\arcgisdatastore
Or, if ArcGIS Enterprise Builder was used to install the data store (available from version 10.5.1):
    C:\arcgis\arcgisdatastore
  4. Start the standby data store service.
  5. Register the standby data store service with the server.
