PROBLEM

Site is removed after successfully joining a federated ArcGIS Enterprise environment

Last Published: July 29, 2022

Description

After successfully joining a site to a federated ArcGIS Enterprise environment, the site is removed unexpectedly and is not listed in ArcGIS Server Manager and the Portal Administrator Directory. The ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS log files do not display any log events for this issue. Attempts to rejoin the site via the Create New Site configuration wizard or via ArcGIS Server Manager result in the site being removed unexpectedly again.

Cause

  • Insufficient permissions for the python27 and arcgisserver folders.
  • Relevant ports are not opened on the new machine.
  • Certificates on both machines do not match.

Solution or Workaround

Grant ArcGIS Server permissions to specific folders

Grant the ArcGIS Server Windows account permissions to the python27 and arcgisserver directories. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: What permissions do I need to grant to the ArcGIS Server account? for more information.

Open ports used by ArcGIS Enterprise

Open the necessary ports used by the base ArcGIS Enterprise components. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Ports used by base ArcGIS Enterprise components for more information on these ports.

Ensure the certificates used on all ArcGIS Enterprise machines match

Check the certificates imported into ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS and ensure the certificates match. Refer to ArcGIS Server: Best practices for server certificates for more information on using certificates in ArcGIS Enterprise.
