Shared update groups are unavailable for item sharing in ArcGIS Online

Description

When attempting to share a map in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer, shared update groups are unavailable under the 'Members of these groups:' setting in the Share window.

Cause

This is expected behavior for shared update groups. This group type has elevated privileges, therefore the option to share items to shared update groups in Map Viewer is disabled. The disabled option ensures shared items are only updated by selected members of the group.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve the issue, share the intended item to a shared update group on the Content page in ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Share items with a group for steps to do so.

Note:
Alternatively, create a new group, and select Only their own items in the What items in the group can its members update? setting. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Create a group for more information. This setting enables item sharing to the group in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer.
