PROBLEM
When attempting to perform an administrative operation such as updating a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate through the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory, the following error message is returned:
Error: Server machine '<serverMachine_Name>' is currently being configured by another administrative operation. Please try again later.
In some instances, these administrative operations include operations that require a restart of ArcGIS Server to complete the operation.
The error can be returned if ArcGIS Server is installed on a machine with multiple network interface controller (NIC) cards or multiple DNS entries (also called records), and if the hostname.properties file is not properly implemented before creating the ArcGIS Server site.
Configure the hostname.properties file correctly. The hostname is case-sensitive, so ensure the hostname.properties file has the same hostname as the hostname displayed in the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory. For example, if the hostname appears in all uppercase letters in the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory, ensure that it is exactly the same in the hostname.properties file. Refer to ArcGIS Server: Configure ArcGIS Server in advanced scenarios for more information.
After configuring the hostname.properties file, restart the ArcGIS Server service and update the SSL certificate. Refer to ArcGIS Server: Configure ArcGIS Server with a new CA-signed certificate or ArcGIS Server: Configure ArcGIS Server with an existing CA-signed certificate for more information.
