PROBLEM

Related data from a relationship class not displayed in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: December 4, 2024

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, when accessing related data through the pop-up or table view, the data are neither displayed nor accessible. This results in the loss of critical information required for analysis, decision-making, and data validation, as related data are important to understand context and relationships between spatial features and their attributes. In this example, the related dataset, ParcelOwners, is not displayed in the Parcels layer pop-up shown below.

The missing related data in the pop-up in ArcGIS Pro

Cause

  • The foreign key field, such as GlobalID, in the destination table is null or misspelled, indicating a missing or invalid key. The foreign key field must match the corresponding primary key field in the origin table.
  • The destination table is empty and does not contain any features.
  • The destination table is deleted or no longer exists in the geodatabase, which breaks the relationship between the origin and destination tables.
  • The destination table is not added to the map. This is a known limitation in ArcGIS Pro version 3.2 and has been addressed in ArcGIS Pro 3.2.2 and later. Refer to BUG-000163247 for more information.

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, the workarounds described below are applicable.

Update the foreign key field in the destination table with the correct values

In the attribute table of the destination table, update the foreign key field with the matching primary key value from the origin table. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Primary and foreign keys for more information.

Add features to the destination table

In ArcGIS Pro, create features to add records to the destination table. Then, match the records in the destination table to the corresponding feature in the origin table. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Add a feature to a relationship for instructions.

Re-add the destination table to the geodatabase

When moving or duplicating an origin table or a destination table, the relationship class preserves the connection between the tables. To restore the relationship in the working geodatabase, re-add the destination table to the geodatabase. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Copy feature datasets, feature classes, and tables to a geodatabase for instructions.

Use the latest version of ArcGIS Pro

Download and install the latest version of ArcGIS Pro. By design, the related records from the origin table are displayed in the pop-up configuration and table view without the need to add the related table to the map.
