PROBLEM

Publishing cached services with custom tiling scheme creates empty tiles

Last Published: May 6, 2024

Description

After publishing a cached map service or imagery service with a custom tiling scheme, only some of the expected level of details are created on the ArcGIS Server cache directory.

  • Using the Manage Map Server Cache Tiles tool to re-create the empty tiles doesn't resolve the issue.
  • The service Caching status on ArcGIS Server Manager is incomplete and doesn't change to 100%.

Cause

The tiling scheme file is generated using the Generate Tile Cache Tiling Scheme geoprocessing tool.

Solution or Workaround

For publishing cached services with a custom tiling scheme, use the Generate Map Server Cache Tiling Scheme tool to generate the tiling scheme file. The Generate Tile Cache Tiling Scheme tool is intended to be used when the cache is generated locally on the client machine. Using the tiling scheme file generated by this tool for publishing cached services to ArcGIS Enterprise can cause unexpected behavior.
