PROBLEM

PostScript Level 1 versus PostScript Level 2

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Solution or Workaround

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 PostScript?

Answer:

PostScript Level 2 includes all of the features of Level 1, plus additional features such as data compression modes for smaller files, support for CIE-XYZ device independent color, ATM font rendering, performance improvements, forms, patterns, and improved half-toning features.

Notes:

CIE-XYZ is a color standard which generates color that is designed to be
independent of the technology or printer being used. However, using this feature requires support from the application software.

PostScript is a trademark of Adobe Software, Inc.
