Description
In ArcGIS Online, point features in a feature service published from ArcGIS Desktop display in incorrect locations when viewed in Map Viewer.
Cause
The following are possible causes:
- The spatial index of the feature layer is not properly rebuilt when published from ArcGIS Desktop.
- The data is defined in a coordinate system other than the WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere) coordinate system. This is the default coordinate system of basemaps in ArcGIS Online. When data is defined in a different coordinate system, the point features are displayed in incorrect locations on the basemap. Refer to ArcGIS Online: FAQ – What is the coordinate system of the web maps in Map Viewer, and can I change it? for more information.
Solution or Workaround
Rebuild the spatial indexes of the feature class
- In ArcGIS Online, navigate to the Content tab.
- Click the hosted feature layer to open the hosted feature layer's item page.
- On the Settings tab, check the Enable Editing option.
- Click Rebuild Indexes under the Manage Spatial Indexes section.
- Check the feature layers checkboxes to rebuild spatial indexes for the layers, and click Rebuild.
