PROBLEM

Intermittent timeout issues when working with hosted feature services in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: February 3, 2025

Description

The attempts to save edits, load tables, or edit hosted feature services in ArcGIS Pro intermittently fail. These intermittent issues prevent local edits from synchronizing successfully with the feature service, affecting operations within ArcGIS Online or the ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

In some instances, the following error returns:

Error:
General function failure [Error code: 1000. Description: Execution Timeout Expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. Operation canceled by user.. ]

Cause

The network timeout setting is not configured in the Registry Editor. Therefore, the system does not have a predefined duration to wait for a response from the remote server or service before timing out. Without the configuration, the default timeout behavior is applied, which is insufficient for environments with slow or intermittent network connections. This leads to errors or failed operations when interacting with remote services such as hosted feature services in ArcGIS Pro.

Solution or Workaround

Note:
The following steps involve making changes to the Windows Registry on one or more network machines and require administrative access.
