PROBLEM
In ArcGIS Dashboards, assigning the same text size category to multiple indicators results in inconsistent text sizing. This leads to text appearing smaller as the number of characters increases and larger when fewer characters are displayed.
In this example, all indicators are configured with a large text size for the middle text displaying the numeric values. However, despite being assigned the same size category, the number 64 appears larger than 15,315 and 1,108.
This is as designed. ArcGIS Dashboards supports only categorical text sizes (xx-small, x-small, small, medium, large, x-large, and xx-large) rather than specific font units such as points (pt) or pixels (px). The text size dynamically adjusts based on the character count and the available space within the indicator to maintain full visibility and prevent truncation on different screen sizes. As a result, shorter text can fully utilize the specified text size, while longer text scales down to fit within the displayed area.
Additionally, newly added indicators often appear larger as they default to the maximum feasible text size within their category before dynamic scaling adjusts them based on content and layout constraints.
In this workflow, the text size is set to the largest category that fits the longest text in the indicator. For example, if a long number only fits within the medium text size category, all indicators are set to medium to maintain text size consistency and prevent shorter text from appearing disproportionately larger.
In this example, the middle text size is set to medium to display text consistently across all indicators, as shown in the image below.
