Hosted tile layers do not render in ArcGIS Online

Description

In ArcGIS Online, hosted tile layers can be published from map tile packages. In some instances, on the layer’s item details page, the thumbnail appears correctly, but the layer does not draw or render in Map Viewer.

Cause

This problem occurs because the individual tiles in the package are not published.

Solution or Workaround

Ensure all the tiles are published. Complete the steps below to do so:

  1. In ArcGIS Online, navigate to Content > My Content.
  2. On the My Content tab, select the item to open its item details page.

  1. On the item details page, select the hosted tile layer.
  2. On the layer page, click Settings.

  1. Scroll down to Tile Layer (hosted), beside Tiles, click Build Tiles.

Note:  
Older tile layers that are published do not show the Publish Tiles option from the previous version of ArcGIS Online. Additionally, there may be limitations set by the organization administration on publishing bigger tiles as it consumes storage and credits. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Credits and storage for more information.
  1. Select a scale for the hosted tile layer. Click Publish Tiles and the tiles appear on the selected scale.
