Hosted tile layers do not render in ArcGIS Online

Description

In ArcGIS Online, hosted tile layers can be published from map tile packages. In some instances, on the layer’s item page, the thumbnail appears correctly, but the layer does not draw or render in Map Viewer.

The item page below shows the thumbnail correctly.

The map viewer below shows the layer not rendered on the map.

Cause

The individual tiles in the package are not published.

Solution or Workaround

Note:
Applying this workaround resolves the issue for hosted tile layers, it is not applicable for hosted vector tile layers.

Ensure all the tiles are published. Complete the steps below to do so:

1. In ArcGIS Online, navigate to Content > My Content.
2. On the My Content tab, select the item to open the item page.

3. On the item page, click Settings.

4. Scroll down to Tile Layer (hosted) and click Build tiles under Tile.

Note:  
There may be limitations set by the organization administration on publishing bigger tiles as it consumes storage and credits. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Credits and storage for more information.

5. In the Build tiles window, select the intended scale and click Create tiles.

6. In the Create tiles window, click Yes, create tiles.
