Getting a red X instead of the map image


In HTML viewers, the page appears to load, but instead of seeing the map, a red X appears.


The Map Service used in the HTML viewer has the Server Output URL Location pointing to a path that is not resolvable from the client. The red X in the browser window is an indication that the path to the image is incorrect.

Solution or Workaround

  • In either ArcIMS Manager or Stand-alone Administrator, open the property sheet for the service being used by this page.
  • Change the value of the Server Output URL location to be correct from the clients perspective.
  • On Apache Web servers, depending on the set up of the output virtual directory, it may be necessary to place an ending '/', for example:
