Fields are displayed in alphabetical order in the Identify window in ArcMap

Description

In ArcMap, the Identify tool displays fields in alphabetical order, instead of the order of the fields listed in the attribute table.

The following image displays the fields in the Identify window in alphabetical order.

The next image displays the order of the fields in the attribute table, sorted by OBJECTID.

Cause

The issue occurs when the Sort Fields option is checked in the Identify window.

Solution or Workaround

Follow the instructions below to change the alphabetical order in the Identify window to the order listed in the attribute table.

1. In ArcMap, click the Identify tool  on the Tools toolbar.
2. Click the desired feature on the map to display the Identify window.
3. In the Identify window, right-click the Field tab and click Sort Fields to uncheck the option.
