FATAL ERROR Attempted write past end of file

Description

Editing or saving a file in ArcInfo or ArcEdit returns:"FATAL ERROR Attempted write past end of file."

Cause

Data is accessed over a network and errors are detected in the data by ArcInfo.

Solution or Workaround

Note:
To determine what machine is running ArcInfo, type the following:

UNIX
Arc: &sys echo $ARCHOME 

Windows NT or 2000: 
Arc: &sys echo %ARCHOME%{\NOTE}
