PROBLEM

Duplicate MXD files are created when an MXD is opened

Users are reporting that a duplicate MXD file is created in the same directory as the original, when a previously saved MXD is opened. The duplicate copy is about half the size of the original, and the name is changed to include the original name plus a date stamp. One duplicate is created daily.

Cause

This may be caused by a software conflict with GISTOOLS, an ArcObjects application written by Lockhead-Martin. The customers who have reported this problem work for the Central Intelligence Agency. One has had GISTOOLS installed on their computer, but had it uninstalled. The other user currently has GISTOOLS installed.

Solution or Workaround

No solution is known at this time because uninstalling GISTOOLS did not resolve the problem for one of the two customers reporting the issue.
