Problem: Cannot Enable ArcGIS Desktop or ArcView/Editor Single Use after Applying a Servic

Description

When attempting to enable an alternate product type, such as concurrent use or single use, when the other type is already installed, the following error message is displayed:"ArcGIS Desktop Version 9.2.xxxx is already installed. You must uninstall the existing version before installing ArcGIS Desktop Version 9.2.1324. Do you want to uninstall the existing version of ArcGIS Desktop?"

Cause

The setup.exe includes logic to do version checking between products. The DVD link for ArcGIS Desktop starts the setup.exe.

Solution or Workaround

Access the setup.msi instead of the setup.exe or the DVD media link. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the setup.msi for ArcGIS Desktop concurrent use or single use and run the setup program from setup.msi.
