Cannot add data to a new table in ArcMap

Description

The Start Editing option is greyed out after adding a new table with the Add Data button. The table (INFO or geodatabase) was created through ArcToolbox or ArcCatalog, and ArcMap was started immediately after.This document shows how you can edit the table.

Cause

This is a known limit at ArcInfo 8.0.2.

Solution or Workaround

1. Add a geographic data set from the same directory or workspace where the table is located.
2. Click Start Editing from the editor menu.
3. Highlight the table in the table of contents, right-click and click Open.
4. Add records to the table and edit any existing records.
