PROBLEM

Attributes are not inherited using the Split tool in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: May 6, 2024

Description

In some cases, when dealing with utility data, ArcGIS Pro does not inherit the attributes from the original polygon when using the Split tools.

Cause

This is expected behavior when there are domains on the attribute fields, and the values on split are determined by the split policy on the domain. If the Split Policy is set as Default, the attributes of the two resulting features take on the default value for the attribute of the given feature class or subtype. Whereas, if the Split Policy is set as Duplicate, the attribute of the two resulting features takes on a copy of the original object's attribute value.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve this, change the Split Policy to Duplicate and run the Split tool and see if the attributes are inherited from the original polygon.
