ArcGIS Pro legend displays an additional label on exported maps

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, legends can be added to a map layout. However, there are instances where an additional label is displayed in the legend on the exported map.

The image below shows an additional ‘Layer’ label in the map legend of an exported PDF file.

Cause

The feature class name is empty. ArcGIS Pro automatically names empty feature classes as ‘Layer[number of the layer]’, for example, ‘Layer2’.

Solution or Workaround

  1. In the Contents pane, right-click the feature class and click Properties.

  1. On the General tab of the Layer Properties window, click the text box under Name and press the Spacebar.
  2. Click OK.
