PROBLEM

ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1.1 crashes immediately after startup

Last Published: July 17, 2025

Description

When attempting to start ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1.1, the service initiates and briefly displays a "Running" status in the Windows Services console. However, within a few seconds, the status reverts to a blank state, indicating the service has stopped unexpectedly. ArcGIS Monitor displays no error messages, and the application fails to remain active.

Cause

The CONFIG_STORE_PATH variable in the .env file has the wrong ArcGIS Monitor account, pointing to the default 'arcgis' user instead of the intended domain account due to a failed installation.

Solution or Workaround

Note:
The AppData folder is hidden by default. Refer to the Show hidden files drop-down in Microsoft Support: Common File Explorer options for instructions to display hidden folders.
  1. On the ArcGIS Monitor machine, in File Explorer, navigate to the .env file, which by default is located in:
C:\Users\<ArcGIS Monitor Domain Account>\AppData\Local\ESRI\ArcGISMonitor\config-store-server
  1. Right-click the .env file and open the file in a text editor, for example, Notepad.
  2. In the text editor, navigate to the CONFIG_STORE_PATH variable.
  3. Edit the domain account in the file path to include the user's domain account. An example of the edited file path is:
C:\Users\<ArcGIS Monitor Domain Account>\AppData\Local\ESRI\ArcGISMonitor\config-store-server
  1. Save the .env file and close the text editor.
