PROBLEM

Potential Linux ArcGIS Video Server issues with shared tool dependencies

Last Published: January 15, 2026

Description

In ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3/11.4 Linux environments, it has been noted that there are internal dependencies used by ArcGIS Video Server tools that rely upon by additional ArcGIS applications. It is possible that both applications could be using these dependencies simultaneously, resulting in a decrease in stability and reliability when both applications’ tools and scripts are run.

For example, a script may not run successfully or could throw an error related to unavailable libraries. If this does occur, it is likely to be intermittent, occurring while the related tools are running simultaneously.

By default, the tools that use these shared dependencies can be found in the following location in Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04:

~/arcgis/video/framework/runtime/mediatools/

Cause

The dependencies used by Video Server and other ArcGIS Enterprise applications are running simultaneously or being used for other processes, resulting in inconsistent tool success.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Download the files attached to this knowledgebase article (available for ArcGIS Video Server 11.3 and 11.4, respectively).
  2. Copy these files, both the .sh and .txt files inside of the archive to the following location in the Linux file system:
~/arcgis/video/framework/runtime/mediatools
  1. Input the following commands:
chmod +x copy_syslib.sh
./copy_syslib.sh

Ensure that the .txt file is copied to this folder as well, otherwise the script will not run successfully. This script creates links to the third-party dependency libraries that are installed with the Video Server in a new syslib folder. Video Server should then use these libraries as opposed to the existing libraries, preventing the issue from occurring.
