Open Attribute Table returns no values on a geodatabase point feature class with a join and a definition query based on a joined field

Description

Open Attribute Table returns no values on a personal geodatabase point feature class joined to a .dbf table and a definition query is applied based on a field from the joined .dbf.

Cause

This is a known issue.

Workaround

Perform the join and then save the data to a new shapefile. Then set the definition query.
