Newly installed fonts do not display in an ArcGIS Server map service

Description

When a newly installed font is used for the symbology or labels in a map document published to ArcGIS Server, the new font does not display in the service. Although the font has been installed on the ArcGIS Server SOC machine and works in other applications on that machine, the map service displays the characters using a different font.

Cause

A system restart is required to properly display newly installed fonts with ArcGIS Server.
