Required Microsoft driver is not installed

Error Message

While trying to perform a join from Microsoft Excel, or while trying to convert an Excel file to CSV, the following error is returned:

Required Microsoft driver is not installed.

Cause

ArcGIS Pro is a 64-bit application. If the Microsoft Office version installed on the machine is 32-bit, this mismatch can create a conflict that can lead to a geoprocessing error. 
Microsoft Excel is a part of the Microsoft Office suite and will throw error because of this mismatch with Esri software.

The system requirements for ArcGIS Pro specifically state that the required operating system is 64-bit. The Microsoft About Office page can help to determine whether the version of Excel in use is 32- or 64-bit.

Solution or Workaround

Suggested resolutions include:

• The preferred approach is upgrading Microsoft Office from 32-bit to 64-bit.
• Alternatively, using the Excel to Table tool in ArcGIS Pro as a temporary workaround. This tool removes the Microsoft component from the spreadsheet and converts it to a standalone table.
  • Any geoprocessing can be performed after using the above tool.
