Summary
This workflow describes the steps to match the grid used to create Data Driven Pages with the data frame in ArcMap, without needing to adjust the size and scale manually.
Procedure
- Using the Measure tool, calculate the width and height values of a rectangle from the grid.
- If possible, in the Results pane, open the history of using the Grid Index Features tool to find the values.
- From the Layout view, open the Data Frame Properties, shown in the image below, and on the Size and Position tab, in the Size section, assign the Width and Height values (The units do not matter since this is proportional).
- Check the Preserve Aspect Ratio option and click Apply.
- Resize the data frame to fit within the page as needed, taking into account that the Preserve Aspect Ratio option was checked, this retains the relative dimensions.
- Once the size is okay, open the Set Up Data Driven Pages window from the Data Driven Pages toolbar, shown in the next image. On the Extent tab, set the following parameters, click OK, and the configuration is complete.
- Method: Best Fit
- Size: 100%
- Specify Using: Percentage
Note:
This configuration is kept despite the data frame being resized, changing the scale or panning/zooming the map in both layout and data views. You just need to change the page and all the configuration and extent will be reapplied automatically.
