PROBLEM

Loading a raster dataset or catalog using 'sdeimport' creates a polygon feature class

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Using the 'sdeimport -o create' command to load a raster catalog results in the raster catalog displaying as a polygon feature class. When the same command is used to load a raster dataset, a polygon feature class appears along with the raster.

Cause

SDE administration commands do not register items with the geodatabase, so the geodatabase does not properly handle the loaded objects.

Solution or Workaround

Start ArcCatalog and follow the appropriate steps noted below to register the loaded raster catalog or raster dataset.

  • Raster Catalog - Right-click on the SDE polygon feature class and select the 'Register with Geodatabase' option. This results in the raster catalog being recognized as a raster catalog.
  • Raster Dataset - Right-click on the SDE raster dataset and select the 'Register with Geodatabase' option. This results in the polygon that shares the same name as the raster being eliminated from display.
