Large images display black in certain pyramid levels

Description

When displaying large images, SDE raster datasets or file based raster datasets, a black display may occur when zooming to certain pyramid level.

Cause

There are problems with memory allocation.

Solution or Workaround



Download and install ESRI's patch from the ESRI Online Support Center. The patch can be obtained by following the steps below:

1. Click on the link in the Related Information section below.
2. Click the Downloads tab.
3. Select Patches and Service Packs.
4. Select ArcInfo Desktop.
5. Select ArcGIS 8.3 RPF and Memory management for Large Raster Data Patch.
6. Download and install as directed from this page.

This patch includes fixes for the following problems:

a) Loading RPF raster data (DTED, CIB, CADRG) to ArcSDE has issues with positional accuracy of the pixels (off by 1/2 pixel).
b) Metadata extent versus actual display location differed with regards to loaded RPF raster data.
c) ArcObjects was not returning the extent which matches the edges of the RPF raster data.
d) Large raster datasets (ArcSDE or file-based data) would display as black raster datasets due to memory allocation errors.
