HOW TO

Keep a graphic from causing labels to shift or disappear

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

Adding graphics to a labeled map either forces labels to shift, or disappear from the map. Instructions provided describe how to prevent this.

Procedure

To allow labels to overlap map graphics, the label weight of the graphic must be changed from high to none:

  1. Add the labeling toolbar to the map by selecting Tools > Customize > the Toolbars Tab. Checking the Labeling option.
    [O-Image] [O - Image] Labeling option
  2. Locate the Label Weight Ranking button on the labeling toolbar.

  3. Change the <default> Feature weight from High to None.

    Note:
The default selected in this step is the default for the graphics and not the default for the layer.
