BUG

Java Globe Animation samples fail to run on certain Linux operating systems

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Globe Animation Java samples fail to run on certain Linux operating systems. This has been seen after updating GNOME.

Cause

The crash is occurring because of a symbol conflict between an ArcGIS library and the Linux libz.so library.

Workaround

The problem typically occurs when logged in locally to the Linux machine.

Using 'rlogin' to re-log into the local machine as a remote user usually avoids the problem.

The planned fix for this problem involves a tighter way of linking the ArcGIS libzn.so library. This prevents ArcGIS internal calls from being intercepted by the Linux operating system.

This fix is planned to be included in a 9.3.1 service pack.
