Java Connector: Cannot use an encrypted password with a dynamically generated SDEWORKSPACE

Last Published: April 25, 2020

An application using the Java Connector returns the following or similar error when attempting to dynamically add an SDEWORKSPACE with an encrypted password.

Underlying input stream returned zero bytes
File "null" not found

The encrypted attribute is not added to the SDEWORKSPACE tag in the GET_IMAGE request sent to ArcIMS. As a result of the default value for the encrypted attribute ("false"), the password is not decrypted, and ArcSDE server authentication fails.

The only Java Connector supported workaround is to use basic, unencrypted password when creating a new SDEWORKSPACE.
