When trying to run the Validate Network Topology tool in ArcGIS Pro with the map at full extent, and issue is encountered with validating the network topology, and the following error is returned:

"Edit operation failed. The server took too long to answer. The client has timed out (status code 28)."

Cause

One of the reasons that can lead to this error is if there is a large volume of edits (approximately 15,000 attribute updates or more) that existed in the branch version at the time of validation. When using the Validate Network Topology tool on the full service area extent, the resulting processing workload may cause the validation operation to fail with timeout or database-related errors. Running the validation in smaller extents successfully reduced the workload on the Server and resolves the issue.

Solution or Workaround

Validation of the Utility Network topology was completed successfully by processing smaller extents (one township at a time, for example) instead of validating the full service area in a single operation.
