Is it possible to change the image format for cached map service images to anything other than PNG 24-bit?

Prior to ArcGIS Service Pack 1, the only format available for creating the map cache was PNG 24-bit.

With ArcGIS Service Pack 1 and later Service Pack releases, cache can be created in PNG 8-bit, PNG 32-bit, and JPEG formats.
