Frequently asked question

Is a geodatabase upgrade necessary after installing ArcGIS 10 Service Pack 2?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

After installing ArcGIS 10 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Service Pack 2, the Upgrade Geodatabase command on the geodatabase property page is enabled and the Upgrade Geodatabase geoprocessing tool can be run.

The Upgrade Geodatabase command and geoprocessing tool are enabled when either the geodatabase system tables or geodatabase stored procedures require upgrading.

ArcGIS 10 SP2 enterprise geodatabases running on the following DBMS platforms require upgrading, as SP2 contains changes to the geodatabase stored procedures for these platforms:
▪ Oracle
▪ SQL Server
▪ Informix
▪ DB2

Note:
Enterprise geodatabases running on PostgreSQL do not require an upgrade with ArcGIS 10 SP2.
