Error: Invalid Layer Configuration Keyword

Error Message

When building a geometric network in an SDE Geodatabase the following error occurs:

"Invalid layer configuration keyword"

The error message may be appended with any of the following bracketed strings:

[N_###_Props]
[N_###_Desc]

In addition, the error message may also state:

"Cannot create network tables".

Cause

There is no NETWORK_DEFAULTS keyword specified in the SDE DBTUNE file or the keyword specified for the Geometric Network has not been configured properly in the SDE DBTUNE file.

Solution or Workaround

Network keywords are composite keywords that are designed to accommodate geometric networks. The size variation of the tables in which the network information is stored requires a configuration keyword that allows for storage parameters of both small and large tables. The network composite keyword contains three sections, with each section containing the storage parameters for different tables that represent the geometric network. The bracketed string at the end of the error message provides an indication about which section of the Network keyword contains missing or incorrect parameters. The following examples assume the Network keyword is named "MYNETWORK". The Network keyword must contain three sections; ##MYNETWORK, ##MYNETWORK::NETWORK, and ##MYNETWORK::DESC, even if the exact same storage parameters are specified for each section.

If the NETWORK_DEFAULTS configuration keyword is missing from your DBTUNE file, consult the Configuring DBTUNE storage parameters chapter in the ArcSDE Configuration and Tuning Guide manual on how to configure the NETWORK_DEFAULTS keyword.

If the bracketed string references the N_###_Props table, there may be a problem with the MYNETWORK or the MYNETWORK::NETWORK section of the Network keyword. First, confirm that these sections are present in the Network keyword. If either section is missing, it must be added to the Network keyword. If the sections are present, ensure that the parameters of each section have been specified correctly by comparing the keyword with the NETWORK_DEFAULTS keyword.

If the bracketed string references the N_###_Desc table, there is a problem with the MYNETWORK::DESC section of the Network keyword. First, confirm the DESC section is present in the Network keyword. If the DESC section has not been specified, it must be added to the Network keyword. If the DESC section is present, ensure that the parameters have been specified correctly by comparing the keyword with the NETWORK_DEFAULTS keyword.
