ERROR

Invalid column value [JPEG/JP2 compression not allowed for this data source.]

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

When using the JPEG or JPEG 2000 compression algorithms with colormap data, the following error displays:

"Invalid column value[JPEG/JP2 compression not allowed for this data source.]"

This error is especially common when loading colormap raster datasets into ArcSDE. Even though the format is now a SDE Raster, the compression rules still apply.

The Technical Specifications for Raster Dataset Formats table shows what formats ArcGIS supports. The table mentions that ArcSDE Rasters can support JPEG/JPEG 2000 compression and also supports colormaps; however, they cannot be supported in the same file.

Cause

The JPEG and JPEG 2000 formats do not support colormaps. If colormap data is created or loaded into a file that is using JPEG or JPEG 2000 compression, this error occurs.

Solution or Workaround

Use a different file format or compression type (for example: LZ77) that does support colormaps.
