Incorrect Command Line Parameters

Error Message

When starting the installation of ArcGIS, the following error is reported by the Windows Installer:

"Incorrect Command Line Parameters.

Windows Installer. V 1.10.1029.1
Copyright 1999 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
Portions of this software are based in part on the work of the Independent JPEG Group"

Cause

There may be a space in the network hostname of the computer.

Solution or Workaround

1. Click Start > Run and enter the following command line parameters into the text box provided and click OK:
   
   For ArcView Single Use 8.1:

   Note:
   <CD-ROM drive> refers to the drive letter of your CD-ROM.
   <Hostname> refers to the network hostname of the computer on which you are installing.  To check hostname, type hostname at a DOS prompt.

   
   
2. Once the command line parameters are accepted, the installation wizard appears. Continue with the installation as normal.
3. After the installation is complete, update the registry to properly set up the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator.
