BUG

Importing an XML workspace document with a geometric network fails with "geometry cannot have Z values"

Last Published: October 1, 2025

Description

When importing an XML workspace document into a geodatabase, the import fails with the error:
"Geometry cannot have Z values".

Cause

The XML document was exported using ArcGIS 10 or a later release and contains a geometric network with participating feature classes that are Z-aware.

Workaround

There are two workarounds for this issue:

  • Import the XML workspace document using a pre-10 version of ArcGIS. If the information within the document needs to be in another geodatabase, use Copy/Paste to move the data to other geodatabases as needed.
  • Install ArcGIS 10.0 SP4 or later to import the XML workspace document.
