PROBLEM

Import of Oracle export file containing Oracle SDO_GEOMETRY data does not populate spatial index

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When importing an Oracle dump (export) file that contains SDO_GEOMETRY data, the import program may not populate the rows in USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA for the tables with SDO_GEOMETRY columns. Also, the spatial indexes cannot be created, because the index creation routines need the missing rows from USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA.

Cause

This is a known issue with Oracle export and import utility at version 8.1.7.x.

Solution or Workaround

Upgrade to Oracle 9i, or install the Oracle 8.1.7.4 database patch. For Oracle 8.1.7.4, install the corresponding Oracle Spatial patch, which must match the level of the core database server patch on Oracle 8i systems.
