Use an image as a basemap in the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile app

Summary

The ArcGIS Field Maps mobile app, available on mobile devices, is designed for on-site use. When visiting a site location, there are often illustrations or site plans useful for visual representation when used as a basemap. However, the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile app has a limited selection of basemaps and does not have the functionality to use images as basemaps.

As an alternative, the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile app can use a web map from ArcGIS Online with a basemap created from a tile layer. This article outlines the workflow for preparing and using an image as a basemap in the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile app.

Procedure

1. In ArcGIS Pro, add the desired image to the project. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Add data to a project for instructions.
2. Georeference the image based on known x and y coordinates on the map or reference layer. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Georeference a raster to x,y coordinates or ArcGIS Pro: Georeference a raster to a referenced layer for instructions.
3. Publish the image as a hosted tile layer to ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Share a web tile layer for instructions.
4. Log in to ArcGIS Online and click Content > My content.
5. Locate the published hosted tile layer, click More options , and click Open in Map Viewer.
6. In Map Viewer, save the map with the tile layer. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Save maps for instructions.
7. In the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile app, in the Maps list, open the web map saved in Step 6.
