Summary
Instructions provided describe how to upload data to use with ArcWeb Services.
Procedure
Use Builder to upload data to use with ArcWeb Services. Database, .DBF, files of locations and compressed shapefiles, in .ZIP format with point, line or polygon data are supported data formats for uploading.
When data is uploaded, ArcWeb creates a default layer using it. This layer can be modified; custom icons or symbols can also be uploaded to use with layers and map services.
- Navigate to the ArcWeb site > Build tab and click 'Upload Data and Create Layer' to open the Upload Data File Web page. Log in if you have not already done so.
- Click the Browse button to open a dialog box to navigate to either a compressed shapefile in .ZIP format or a database or .DBF file. Once selected, the file name appears in the text box.
Note:
File Requirements:
· Shapefiles must be compressed in a .ZIP format.
· Shapefiles must not contain any reserved fields.
· The following fields are reserved by ArcWeb and cannot appear in the data:
- DATE_CREATED
- DATA_FILE_ID
- DATE_DELETED
- GEOCODE_DATASRC
- GEOCODE_STATUS
- GEOMETRY_POINT_COUNT
- LAST_MODIFIED
- OBJECTID
- OWNER_ID
- SHAPE
· You cannot have a field name and the same field name with an underscore after it, for example, "TEXT" and "TEXT_".
· Files cannot have more than 50 string fields, 50 number fields, or 50 date fields.
· String fields cannot have more than 2048 characters.
· Number fields cannot have more than 16 decimals in SOAP v2006.1.
· It is recommended that shapefiles have corresponding .PRJ files.
· The maximum file size that can be uploaded is 10 MB. To upload a file larger than 10 MB, break up the file into several smaller files. Upload one of the smaller files to create a new data file, then add records to this new data file by uploading the remaining data files one at a time. Learn how to add data to an existing data file.
· The maximum number of points for one feature currently is limited to 30,000. If needed, use software such as ArcGIS to generalize the data.
- Click Next to open the Set Field Properties page.
- Specify details for the data.
Shapefile details include:
· Specifying an alias. Each field has an editable text box that allows an alternate name for the field to be entered.
DBF file details include:
· Selecting a geocoding service to plot the data on a map and optionally format the addresses. A geocoding service must be selected if the data does not contain x,y coordinates.
· Specifying an alias. Each field has an editable text box that allows an alternate name for the field to be entered.
· Aligning the data fields with geocoding fields. For fields in the data that correspond to geocoding fields, select the appropriate field from the menu in the geocoding column.
Note:
When uploading street addresses, ArcWeb geocodes the addresses and adds the results to the table. An e-mail report is sent on the results of the geocoding process.
- Optionally, specify advanced options. Click the Advanced Options button to open the Advanced Options page. On this page, select a projection and select fields to include in searches.
· A default projection appears based on the data. To change the projection, enter a different projection string or ID. Click the Select a Projection link to view a list of available projections and their associated string IDs.
· To identify fields to include in searches, select the check box for the field in the Index column. Select up to 2 fields per field type to be indexed.
· To specify a type for a field, choose a type from the menu in the Type column. Identify a string as a date, string, or number. Each type has a maximum of 10 fields. If the maximum number is exceeded, the system displays an error message. - Click Next to display the Info About This Data page.
- Provide detailed information for the data. An orange letter 'R' indicates the required fields.
Provide as much information as possible. This information helps identify the data and is sometimes called the metadata. - Click Save; a Data Upload Status page appears that displays the progress of the upload. During this upload, additional browser windows can be opened to continue other work.
- When the upload is complete, a page appears with information about the data. The following options can be performed:
· Click Edit Data File to open the Content Library and modify the data information.
· Click Modify Layer to use Builder to make changes to the default layer.
· Click the Share to Group button to make this data available to other users in your group. Click the Notify Group button to send an e-mail notification to others that the data is available. - Click Done to return to the content list or click Upload Another to select another file to upload.
