Set Map Viewer Classic as my organization’s primary Map Viewer in ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5

Summary

Map Viewer Classic (a 3.x JS SDK app) is deprecated, and ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5 is the last version to support it. To encourage the use of Map Viewer (a 4.x JS SDK app), the option for setting Map Viewer Classic as the primary map viewer has been removed from both the organization and user settings. Users can access Map Viewer Classic from the App launcher and Item details page in ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5, but it will be removed altogether in 12.0.

Procedure

Organizations that require Map Viewer Classic to support their workflows can set it as the primary map viewer through the ArcGIS Portal Directory (Sharing API).

Complete the following steps to set Map Viewer Classic as the primary map viewer:

1. Sign in to the ArcGIS Portal Directory as a member of the default administrator role or a member of a custom role with privileges to manage the portal's security and infrastructure. The URL is in the format:

https://webadaptorhost.domain.com/webadaptorname/sharing/rest

2. Click Home > Portals > Self.
3. Click Update in the Supported Operations list.
4. On the Portal Properties dialog box, change the existing value of the mapViewer property to classic.
5. Click Update Organization.

To verify the change was applied, complete the following steps:

1. Sign in to the portal as a member of the default administrator role or a member of a custom role with privileges to manage the portal's website settings.
2. Open Organization > Settings > Map and scene.
3. Verify the Primary map viewer setting is available and set to Map Viewer Classic.
